Einstein

Here are some of my favorites quotes from Einstein:

1- “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

2- “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

3- “Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.”

4- “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

5- “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.”

6- “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

7- “If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.”

8- “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”

  1. Hello,

It is really valuable quotes reflecting the superior mentality of that (valuable thing), a lot of scientists can create many things in the lab but not many can create way of thinking

  5. I, really follow two of Einstein’s quote most:
    1. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
    2. Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything
    new.

Actually, you do not need to follow the quotes of great people. You just need to make your principle and your quotation yourself. It is because of the fact that you better know about attitude than others. You just have to set your values, ethics depending upon situation, condition and ideology. Just you have to fail and learn from that failures every time.

The thoughts that I have developed on my own are:
    1. Discipline doesn’t means to follow rules; it’s to express yourself
    and be morally right.
    2. Empathy is to feel how you feel yourself when some type of
events affect other. Everyone is sympathetic but I should be
    empathetic.

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

so we cant solve nowadays problems if we are using politics and economics…both these 2 conditions created them with their way of thinking…

  18. all these eight quotes of dinstein are really very impressive but one can not take the advantage of these unless/untill he understands these in its real sense. in my opinion all these are somewhere targets the particular type of thinking which mostly assumes normal and noone says anyting about those since they also fear to say something new about anything prevailing idea.
if all thoughts of motivation are applied in our general life so many unnecessary diseases will be out of the planet since they are taking their food from negativity and motivation is the biggest enemy of this….
so i am impressed with these 8 ones but the seventh one is really very touchable………what a combination is it? work, play and keep your mouth shut….. thanks for being a medium between einstein and us.

  28. For sure Einstein’s quotes are very valuable not only for its spiritual and the sentimental human-universal content – but also as its ‘endorsement’ or re-certification as ‘expeienced truths’ by a material scientist – at that !!

  34. Caleb,

The ocean quote, I think it is indeed Einstein. The other two quotes are definitely a little more difficult to process, but they ring very true. Einstein has many more complicated quotes, so when I compiled those 8 quotes, I read through probably over 100 of his quotes/statements and those were the ones I felt would appeal the most to anyone reading them without having to think too much. I think his genius comes through more clearly via simplicity 🙂

  37. “Everything I know is but a drop in the ocean of knowledge”

I can’t remember where I read that, but I’m 80% sure it was Einstein who said it.

Here are two of my other favorites:

“The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.”

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.”

  39. sndy,

perhaps Einstein rephrased Jung’s quote in his own words. To be honest, alot of quotes out there are simply the same ones but with different words. It’s still fun to read them 🙂

  40. Good list.
I am not sure whether the 6thquote is Einstein’s. I think it was Jung who said something like, you cannot solve a problem by using the same level of consciousness that created it (or words to that effect).

  42. Frederic,

I have always greatly enjoyed quote #2 as well. I think of all the quotes, it’s also the hardest one to actually embody and understand at a deep level.

I conceptually understand it on the surface, and occasionally get it at that deeper level… but to embody it? Honestly, that’d be a little bit scary… 🙂

  43. Sammer, I agree that Einstein probably didn’t think such comments would become very important quotes when he said them, but I think in many of them, the appeal is that it’s still resonates true today, more than 70 years later. That shows that he was truly ahead of his time.

  44. first off, these are not points. when he said them he probably didnt envision people looking back on his remarks seventy years later. these quotes are merely a visionary being critical of the prism called life — and breaking it down for the layman to understand. though number eight is very insightful.

  48. Good piece of contribution. Definately Einstein’s quotes are very interesting. As in point 5, where it is mentioned “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding”holds very much true. Mutual understanding with good co-operation/understanding can bring peace. Point No. 4 is also very good. After all when you are on something new, you are born to make mistakes. If we don’t make mistakes, then we have not tried anything new. So it is a valid point. Other points are also very interesting and worth reading.

  50. Hi Chris,

Definitely quote #5 is great. Holds true, especially when we see so many conflicts around the world that don’t seem to be accomplishing anything in trying to “promote peace” by forceful means.

Einstein had alot of spirituality within his beliefs and it comes through in his quotes.

My favorite one is quote #2, which I had heard a long time ago….I wanted to see what other quotes he had written, so this post is the best ones I found from him (out of the hundreds of quotes attributed to Einstein!)

Some of the ones you have above I hadn’t heard before, but may very well have to add to my Quote of the Moment script on my website. Specifically, I like quotes 5 and 8 a lot.
