I was recently asked by a reader what the fear of basement is called. I searched high and low and couldn’t figure out what it is called if anything (if you do know, please email me). But I ended up finding out about some pretty interesting fears. I now know that there is a fear for absolutely ANYTHING! I have to admit that I was cracking up as I was putting this list together, some are just downright silly. It’s a really interesting read:

Levophobia – Fear of things to the left side of the body.
Logophobia – Fear of words.
Metrophobia – Fear or hatred of poetry.
Octophobia – Fear of the figure 8.
Oenophobia – Fear of wines. (make sure no one has this fear at the next “bring your own wine” dinner you attend!)
Ouranophobia or Uranophobia – Fear of heaven.
Panophobia or Pantophobia – Fear of everything. (well, that sums it up just nicely!)
Papaphobia – Fear of the Pope. (I know people that do find him kinda scary)
Peladophobia – Fear of bald people.
Pentheraphobia – Fear of mother-in-law. (very common I’m sure!)
Philosophobia – Fear of philosophy.
Phronemophobia – Fear of thinking. (geez, why am I not surprised that this fear exist?)
Porphyrophobia – Fear of the color purple.
Psychophobia – Fear of mind.

Symbolophobia – Fear of symbolism.

Alright, I’d love to get your comments about this compilation. What fears do you have from this list? Don’t be shy to share! I’m very curious to know if those fears are actually more common than I believe they are. If you’ve got panophobia, then I definitely want to talk to you!
