Last night, the United States elected the first African-American President in their history. That, in and of itself, is a significant milestone. Merely a few years ago, this was deemed impossible. Clearly, the tide has shifted in America. This is not your grandparents’ America anymore. It was apparent when you looked into the crowds of people celebrating in the streets all over the country.
African-Americans had a lot to celebrate about. But they weren’t the only ones. As you looked into the crowds, you couldn’t help but notice how many young people, of all cultures and colors, were genuinely happy about this result. This election is also significant in that so many young people took politics more seriously than ever before. I have noticed it too in my own circle of friends, as everyone up here in Canada were talking about it. I don’t remember this for any election previously. When the new generation gets involved and takes their destiny seriously, it is always immensely important. For that, I am proud of all these students and young folks out there that went out and voted.
Regardless of your political beliefs, you have to admit that Obama has touched not only the American public, but the entire world, in a profoundly emotional way. It’s fascinating to see the entire world watching this unfold on television, being interested in politics in which they cannot even vote for! That’s how influential America is in the world, and hopefully, it will find its place back as a land that people admire and respect. An Obama victory signified that this is indeed possible. This man has “it” and let’s all hope that he becomes successful at his new post and make the world a better place.
What I take away from this amazing story, being a writer and researcher of self improvement and motivation, is that this Obama win now means that everyone out there should believe that their dreams are absolutely possible. Yes, it can happen. Stop thinking that your cultural background, or the color of your skin can hold you back. Stop thinking that you can’t do something because of the way you look. Stop thinking that you are not good enough because of your sex, sexual orientation, or your religious beliefs. Stop thinking that you can’t accomplish your goals because of what your name is. Stop thinking that you don’t have a chance because it may be unlikely. It may be unlikely, but it is possible. Anything is possible. This, I hope is the lesson that everyone out there take away with them.
Let nothing stand in your way. You can become anything you want to be. In the world of self help, we’ve been preaching this for years! Such an example on the grandest stage of them all truly validates what we’ve been saying all along. That’s the powerful significance of the election of Barack Obama. You have an example that anything is possible live and in color. Now believe that you can make this happen within your own existence.
