success

Every day you’re faced with decisions. Some are mundane while others can be life altering. Many people are so afraid of making the wrong decision that they make no decision at all, but this is also a decision! Although you don’t want to drag your feet too long since opportunity may pass you by, you don’t want to rush into anything either. But how can you be sure you’re making the best decision possible? Decisions that will lead you to success? By asking yourself a few simple questions before deciding what to do, you can be certain you’ll enjoy success more often than not. These strategies also help you to avoid not making a decision at all or making impulsive decisions.

Be Honest:

Take stock of your life and situation at this very moment. Be honest with yourself. If you say yes or no, if you decide to move forward or back off, how will this affect you? Are you really prepared for this? Is it something you truly want or just wishful thinking? By seeing the big picture and being completely candid with yourself about your current situation, your desires, thoughts and reasons for wanting or not wanting this, you’ll be more apt to make decisions based on reality rather than fantasy.

Weigh the Options:

Take a good look at each side of the coin. Would you be better off with or without this person, thing, or situation? What can it possibly bring to your life that will help you be more successful, happier, or healthier? Make two lists and write down all of the pros and cons of taking action and following this course. Again, be honest. There are good and bad points to every situation. Which list is longer? This may help you make your decision.

Think Long-term:

Now you’ll need to stretch your imagination a bit, but try looking far off into the future. If you make the decision to go ahead with this option how will it change your life in the long run? For instance, many people put off schooling since they know that in the short term it will mean more stress, more responsibility, more of a financial burden, and probably less sleep. However, the long-term benefits may far outweigh the short-term inconveniences. You could make more money, have more prestige, be more successful, and probably be happier.

Your Gut Instincts:

Write down your choices on small slips of paper or Post-its—One choice per paper. Fold them up and place them in a bowl. Close your eyes, mix them up, and take one out. Before you open your eyes tell yourself, “This is the path I will choose.” Open your eyes, and read what’s on the paper. What’s your instant reaction to this? Elation? Trepidation? Fear? Intrigue? If you get a negative feeling, perhaps this isn’t the decision for you. Many times this is all it takes to find out what you truly want.

Don’t let fear hold you back, and don’t let foolishness cause you to jump in too quickly. By following these suggestions you can be certain that you’ll begin making better and better decisions that will help you live a life of success and happiness.

  1. very good article but one forgot to mention that many people do have the right ideals while going about there lives trying to attain success but the point that i see many people slipping or even in this case ignoring is to stay focused on what you make as your decision. Going along in life you will find many obstacles that are just meant to throw you of that path you choose but one can use those obstacles to gain a higher knowledge of the life one is going to attain.Given that one is willing to stay focused on his/her plan/plot/choice.

  2. Very simple and realistic way to making a decision. Irrespective whether it is successful or not, one just need to improvise along the way. What’s important is the original objective the decision was made for, should not be lost but improved as we discover better alternatives, remedies or solutions.
