Today I have a really insightful video for you. This is from a seminar on goal setting by Zig Ziglar. This video truly demonstrates the essence that is required to accomplish any goal in life. In the video, Ziglar explains how he was overweight for many years, and that it was by choice. Basically, you choose your goals. It’s only when he made a plan of action that he was able to finally lose the weight permanently.

There is a great quote in the video from JC Penney: “Give me a stock clerk with a goal and I’ll show you a man that can make history…give me a man without goals and I will show you a stock clerk.” I thought that was a very interesting quote.

Ziglar then mentions how Japan has been so successful in the automobile and technology industry because of the way they set themselves goals. I think it is a very good analogy, as Japan is #1 in a multitude of industries.

There is a formula that is given in the video to become successful with goals:

– Write them down
– Put a date
– Identify obstacles
– Identify who you need to work with
– Figure out what you need to know
– Design a plan of action
– Write down what’s beneficial for you

It doesn’t matter what’s your goal, the formula will work no matter what the goal is.

Ziglar then discusses how people that wait for change to happen, and people that give themselves excuses to delay what they need to do, never end up anywhere. You must do it now.

A good part in the video is when he says that we all have 24 hours. The problem isn’t lack of time, it’s lack of direction. I think this is very true. It’s all about how we use our time.

He ends with two very nice analogies. One is about a dream experiment and how it shows that we need our dreams. Another is about caterpillars and it explains that we should never confuse activity with accomplishment. It’s definitely worth it to view all three videos just below!

If you are interested in getting the complete seminar, you can get the audio cd’s or dvd:

Without clearly defined goals, you simply can’t achieve the success you want! In Goals, world-renowned motivator Zig Ziglar guides you through a clear, beautifully organized ‘success trip.’ Along the way, you’ll learn how to recognize and set your goals. You’ll learn techniques for finding extra time you didn’t think you had and for cutting down big goals to easy-to-handle size. Now you can take advantage of this all-important opportunity to write your ‘business plan for life.’
Zig Ziglar is a master at telling audiences how to set them, how to achieve them, and how to enjoy their benefits. He doesn’t make it complicated, either. On this DVD video, you get a step-by-step approach that you can tailor to your immediate needs — one you can easily alter as your needs change.

  5. Hi Ryan, thank you for your comment….I agree that the quote about doing things now is one of the best in the video. I highly recommend everyone to watch the whole thing, it’s 20 minutes that may actually change your entire perspective on goals 🙂

  6. I love the stock clerk quote. I think the most important line in this entry is this:

“Ziglar then discusses how people that wait for change to happen, and people that give themselves excuses to delay what they need to do, never end up anywhere. You must do it now.”

It’s something that almost everyone does at least once in a while, and I don’t think there is anything else that could be more detrimental to achieving your goals.
