For much of our evolutionary history, we were a vulnerable species. It made sense to stick to the places and groups where we were accepted and safe. That’s one reason why we’re still here today – so it’s perfectly understandable that many of us confine ourselves to safe and defined limits.
But it’s only one reason. The other reason that humankind has achieved so much is that our ancestors dared to come down out of the trees, dared to migrate and dared to invent tools. And that urge still lives within us today. The following tips will help you to lead a more daring life, whatever that might mean to you.
1 – What Would Happen If You Could Not Fail?
What would you do and where would you go if you had absolutely cast iron guarantees that you could not fail? What single thing can you do today to make that a reality?
Cast iron guarantees are overrated. If you set out to drive somewhere, and the road is closed for repairs, you take a detour. The destination is the same, but you constantly alter your course until you get there. Or you find a more interesting place to stop along the way.
2 – Borrow Somebody’s Else’s Life
Who are your role models? What is it about them that you admire? How you can use a little bit of that quality in your own life? If your role model was living your life, what would they do today?
3 – Jump Out Of A Plane
Not literally! But as any skydiver will tell you, it’s only scary whilst you’re waiting to jump. Once you’re out of the plane, it’s exhilarating.
Prove that to yourself by doing one thing each day that doesn’t come naturally to you – making a phone call, complaining in a restaurant, talking to an attractive member of the opposite sex. Build up those comfort zone extending muscles!
4 – Shake Yourself Up
Grooves can become a rut. Shake yourself out of it by identifying and breaking as many routines as possible. Take a different route to work, have lunch in a different café, skip that TV show and go out to a movie instead.
