What makes you happy? In this great clip, Matthieu Ricard, who is a Buddhist monk, devotes his life to these questions, and his answer is influenced by his faith as well as by his scientific turn of mind: We can train our minds in habits of happiness. I especially love how he says that happiness and pleasure are two different things. For example, something that may give you pleasure in one instance, can be a source a displeasure in another instance. Therefore, happiness is something deeper within ourselves. I highly recommend that you watch the entire video (approx. 20 min.), and I would love for you to share what are things that make you happy in your life 🙂
Thanks for sharing that video Frederic, there are some really great talks on TED.com
I like how Matthieu used the metaphor of waves in the ocean to describe how happiness is deeper than feelings such as pleasure, joy, hate etc.
