I watched this amazing BBC documentary last night on how in certain parts of the world, there are populations that defy the norm. They age more slowly, and live much healthier lives. There seems to be a variety of factors involved in this, and one of the most important aspect is food. While in western civilizations we yearn for more food all the time, one of the keys of such healthy longevity in Okinawa, Japan is their rule to “only eat until you are 80% full”. Instead of over indulging, you calm your hunger without feeling full. Also, the happiness and stress factors come into play as well. Imagine, living to over 100 years old and 97 of those years without health issues at all (that is the norm in Okinawa)! In any event, you should definitely watch this documentary below, it’s an insightful program, which may be an eye opener for many, in that perhaps we go about things backwards when it comes to our health and life expectancy:
