exercise

Exercise is the best way to stay fit and enjoy life. It helps you sleep better, it helps you look better – it even helps you improve your intelligence. Working out for an hour or so every day is the best way to improve multiple aspects of your life as well as help you live longer.

But exercise is also excruciatingly boring, especially if you have never exercised much in your life and are not in the habit of “wasting” an hour of your day on aerobic and muscle exercises. Most people hoping to improve their health buy a treadmill, use it for a week, and shove it in the closet, never to be seen again.

So if you want to start exercising regularly, you need to find a way to make exercise more fun. One of the ways to do that is to do fun exercises that you will be more than happy to enjoy on a weekly basis.

Ways to Stay Fit and Entertained

1- Play Sports
Sports are an enjoyable way to exercise that you can do with friends and still get the workout you need. Sign up for a team sport or play tennis against a friend regularly. Most sports involve a lot of running as well as a lot of muscle use. Also, having people depend on you to be there (when you join a team) is one of the best ways to make sure that you actually go every week.

2- Video Games

“Dance Dance Revolution” is a game that became popular in Japan and has since made its way to the United States. It comes with the Nintendo Wii, and if you think that dancing around in one place is not a difficult work out, try it for an hour and see if you feel the same way.

3- Specialized Dancing Class
Similarly, dancing in general can be a great workout. Sign up for a Hip Hop, Salsa, Belly Dancing or some other active dance class and you will feel the pounds burn away and have a lot of fun doing it.

4- Trampoline/Jump Rope/Tag
There are a number of different things you used to do as a kid that are actually great workouts. Things like the trampoline and jump rope have a number of exercises designed specifically for them that help improve your heart strength and muscles. Plus, to complete these workouts is relatively inexpensive, so if you decide not to stick with it you did not spend a fortune on equipment. And tag is completely free. Games you played as a kid are not just for kids, and many of them can give you a great workout.

5- Swimming
Swimming works out a tremendous number of muscles in a short time, and it is arguably much more fun than a jog. You can also play swimming games with friends, such as water polo, which adds that extra bit of competition helping to ensure you go out regularly.

6- Yoga

Yoga has become all the rage. It is relatively simple, works out a large number of muscles, and helps your body feel better as well. Plus, you can do it at almost any time of day, so you do not necessarily have to set aside a great deal of time for your Yoga workout.

7- TV/Music
Finally, many people assume that “exercise time” needs to be dedicated to exercise. If you want to use a treadmill or you want to use free weights, go ahead and watch TV or listen to music. Music and TV don’t make the workout any worse, but they can keep you entertained so that you don’t get bored while you complete it.

Exercising for the Soul

The more you exercise, the better you feel. While we all know that exercise is good for your health, it also increases neuron connections in your brain (helping to increase intelligence), it helps reduce stress, and it also helps you sleep better.

While exercise can generally feel boring or like a chore, as you can see there are a number of ways to make exercise more fun, and in doing so you can get all the benefits of exercise as well as add a few fun activities into your daily routine.

  1. Hello, thanks for this great blog post. As a regular gym-goer and avid runner, it can be hard to think of a different or new workout. After going so long of doing the same workout, your body becomes used to them and the workouts don’t do anything. It’s always great to change up your routine and do something different – and the exercises don’t have to be strenuous or boring! This is a great blog post to motivate people to workout. Thanks again!
